Fisher Communications: Big Fish in a Big Pond

Red Card Studios partners with Evangelyze Communications to design and integrate an elegant SharePoint solution for Fisher Communications.

SEATTLE, WA—January 01, 2009—Fisher Communications, a Seattle-based communications company that owns and operates 13 television stations and 8 radio stations in the Western United States, was looking to create a SharePoint intranet portal to host information for its internal corporate needs as well as its affiliate stations across the Northwest. Also of importance for Fisher was that the site have a rich, elegant design that would not only incorporate their new branding guidelines and materials, but, also, incorporate their wide variety of station brands. In late 2008 through early 2009, Red Card Studios worked with Evangelyze Communications, a Microsoft unified communications developer, on designing and developing a robust solution that fit all their needs.

“While the portal ultimately became the stylized, flowing blue design known as ‘The Pond’, the site went through a number of different iterations before the right direction was found,” says Red Card Managing Partner Will Lanni. “It was crucial to the client that the site not look like the ‘out-of-the-box’ SharePoint install - which is something we’ve specialized in for a number of years now. But, given the sheer volume of content Fisher had as well as such a wide variety of branding information across multiple stations and media, clarity of navigation, content organization, and branding guidelines needed to be carefully balanced with a creative approach to generate an effective design solution.”

Red Card Studios consulted Fisher and Evangelyze on creative options for not only site design but, also, navigation and content organization. After a series of wireframes and a wide range of design mockups, “The Pond” design was chosen. While Evangelyze handled the server-side development and implementation, Red Card worked with Fisher onsite to integrate the site design and ensure it met the client’s expectations.
