Red Card Studios creates an original, comic book style Flash Animation for AvePoint, Inc.
SEATTLE, WA—May 31, 2007—Gearing up for a major trade show, AvePoint, Inc. - a leader in providing integrated management solutions for SharePoint customers - was faced with a challenge. They wanted to create buzz around their latest version of their popular DocAve software with something fun and exciting that would draw passers-by to their booth at TechEd 2007. But how does one make enterprise-level backup and data management software for Microsoft SharePoint “fun and exciting?” Enter Red Card Studios...
Red Card Studios, a creative studio with offices in Seattle and Los Angeles, had generated a good deal of industry buzz earlier in the year when they created the Telly Award winning Office Noir - a 1940’s noir comic-book style animated series promoting new features and generating interest in the, then, upcoming Microsoft release: Microsoft Office 2007. After the success of the Office Noir series, AvePoint wanted to make use of a similar comic-book style of animation, but take their series in a very different and more modern direction. Paying homage to everything from “The Matrix” to the TV series “24” to “Star Trek”, the creative direction of The DocAve Agents series was to be edgier and darker but without taking itself too seriously.
“We initially sketched out and discussed several different potential creative directions for the AvePoint series before finally coming up with the look and feel you see in the finished product,” says Red Card co-founder Patrick Skidmore. “The idea was to get away from the retro look we had created with Office Noir and really push more towards a modern comic-book style world - deeper, richer colors... integrating modern styles from anime and from comics like Powers and X-Static.”
