Red Card Studios Provides Design Support for Microsoft’s Defense Team
Clear-cut design and animation support Microsoft presenters John Shewchuk and Ian Forrester at the EU Commission’s court
SEATTLE, WA—May 01, 2006—Principals of Red Card Studios, a creative development firm with offices in Seattle and Los Angeles, have returned from a whirlwind two weeks in Europe, where they provided design support to Microsoft engineer John Shewchuk and Microsoft lawyer Ian Forrester as Microsoft presents its case to Europe’s second highest court—the Court of First Instance—in Luxembourg.
Red Card’s Phil Etting and Patrick Skidmore worked with a team of content developers from Insight Creative and Microsoft throughout their two weeks in Belgium and Luxembourg to produce the animated, multimedia demonstration presented by John Shewchuk on April 26. The visual impact of the hour-long presentation was significant—in the days that followed, design elements from the presentation were referred to repeatedly in testimony, much to the chagrin of the prosecution.
Creative development on the presentation actually began last February, when Etting began working with the Insight team to define the visual style of the artwork and animation. “We knew that Insight and Microsoft needed a firm that could not only perform the art direction and animation tasks involved, but also be available to handle the updates and technical issues that can arise in a high-pressure situation,” Etting said, “We worked with some great people over there and we worked hard. All the feedback we’ve heard about the impact of the presentation has been overwhelmingly positive. And that makes us feel good.”
Producer Annie Fergerson agrees. “Going into this, we knew this was going to be a long, grueling and very demanding project. But Red Card rose to the challenge and produced a very high quality Flash presentation that was extremely well-received.”
